New Gate-Field School on the horizon
SARASOTA — The New Gate School Board of Trustees has voted to enter into a long-term partnership with The Montessori Foundation, merging New Gate with the foundation’s newly established Field School.
The New Gate-Field School will serve as an international model school and center for curriculum development for Montessori schools and teachers around the world, said Tim Seldin, who has served as the Montessori Foundation’s president, and who now will be head of school for the New Gate-Field School and the senior program director of the foundation.
The new school will offer Montessori classes for toddlers through high school students at its 100-acre campus on Clark Road and plans to seek additional accreditation through the International Baccalaureate organization for its Montessori middle and high school programs, Seldin said. The board also is exploring the possibility of a satellite campus for students younger than age 6, potentially by re-opening New Gate’s campus on Ashton Road.
