MANATEE -- Plans for the $41 million MTI-State Road 70 campus will be presented to the Manatee School Board during their Monday night meeting.

Manatee County voters approved the project in a 2002 sales tax referendum.

In 2004, a site was identified for the campus north of what is now Braden River High School. But the proposal to build in that area met strong resistance from neighbors who said they feared noise and traffic impacts.

Ultimately, school district officials gave up on the idea of building north of the high school and settled on a site south of the high school along State Road 70, east of Caruso Road.

Construction could start in February 2011, and be substantially completed by December 2012, according to an executive summary of the project provided today by the school district.
