6/22 Business Briefs: Keiser opens campus in Shanghai
MANATEE — Keiser University has opened an off-campus site in Shanghai, China.
The campus offers a bachelor’s degree in business administration taught in Mandarin Chinese. Keiser University will welcome transfer students from its Shanghai campus to its Florida campuses beginning in August.
“This off-campus site will afford Keiser University the opportunity to expand its international education model, support the needs of a global economy and the demands for educated business professionals,” said Dr. Arthur Keiser, chancellor of Keiser University.
Keiser University is located on the Jiaotong University campus. The off-campus site opened April 1 with 106 students enrolled in the business administration program.
Crisis Unit to reopen as an adult facility
SARASOTA — Coastal Behavioral Healthcare, Inc.’s Children’s Crisis Unit, 1451 10th St. will closed June 30 and reopen July 1 as an adult crisis unit.
All children needing inpatient psychiatric care will be seen at Sarasota Memorial Hospital’s Bayside Center, 1650 South Osprey Ave.
“This action will produce a much needed increase in capacity in the adult acute care system while consolidating inpatient psychiatric care for children in Sarasota County,” said Dr. Jerry Thompson, president and chief executive officer of Coastal.
Coastal Behavioral Healthcare is a nonprofit organization providing mental health and addiction treatment, prevention and intervention services for children, adolescents, adults and seniors in Sarasota, DeSoto, Lee and Charlotte counties.
Suncoast Center celebrates two milestones
SARASOTA — The Suncoast Center for Independent Living, 2989 Fruitville Road, will hold an open house for the public from 1 to 4 p.m. July 23 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act and its 20th birthday.
Sarasota Mayor Kelly Kirschner will read a proclamation commending the company on its 20 years of service to citizens with disabilities. Vendors will display goods and services available to those living with a disability or caring for an individual with a disability.
