Bradenton-Sarasota home sales increase in May

BRADENTON — The local housing market showed improvement in May, according to home sales figures released today.

Bradenton and Sarasota Realtors sold 1,029 existing homes in May, a 31 percent increase from the 783 homes sold in May 2009, according to data from the Florida Association of Realtors.

Home prices increased slightly to an average of $166,400, a 6 percent increase from May 2009.

Sales of existing homes statewide increased 18 percent in May, as 16,745 existing single-family homes were sold compared to 14,172 in May 2009.

It was the 21st consecutive month sales activity has increased in Florida.

This morning, the National Association of Realtors also released its home sales report for May. Sales of existing homes nationwide declined 2.2 percent last month to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 5.66 million units.
