MANATEE — A 25-year-old man was walking home when a stranger approached him and jumped on his back from behind, stabbing him nine times, according to a Manatee County Sheriff’s Office report.

The man was walking south on Ninth Street East from Winn Dixie, 1010 53rd Ave. E., when he was attacked at about 10 p.m. Friday. The man was able to break free and make it home. His friends told him he was bleeding and drove him to Manatee Memorial Hospital, according to the report.

Medical personnel found nine puncture wounds. A suspect description and a condition of the man was not listed in the report.

Local men robbed at gunpoint for wallets

MANATEE — Manatee County Sheriff’s Office deputies are investigating two armed robberies that took place Friday and early Saturday morning, according to reports.

It’s unclear if the incidents are related.

In the first case, a man was riding his bike home from the K&S Store when he pulled up to his residence in the 5100 block of 21st Street East and a blue new-model car drove up from behind just before 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Three men got out of the vehicle. One of the suspects approached the man with a silver handgun and ordered him to hand over his wallet. The man threw the wallet. The suspects fled in the car in an unknown direction.

In a separate incident, a 36-year-old man was robbed by two armed men as he was walking along a wooded area on 60th Avenue West, according to reports.

One of the robbers, who had a pistol, demanded money. The man gave them his wallet and was pushed to the ground.

The suspects, who were wearing masks, took off running headed north from the 700 block just before 2 a.m. Saturday. A sheriff’s dog tracked their trail, which led to fresh tire tracks. The man had no money in his wallet, and he was not injured.

Anyone with any information about the incidents can contact the sheriff’s office at 747-3011 or remain anonymous and possibly become eligible for a cash reward by calling Crime Stoppers at (866) 634-TIPS (8477).
