VIN'S PEOPLE: Possum cops get grandma early present

May 28, 2010

Jeanette Frint’s 77th birthday present came early, courtesy of Holmes Beach’s finest.

Grandma went for a morning swim the other day and — eek! — a rat was doing the backstroke in her pool.

Or was it a rat?

Holmes Beach Police Officers Chip Frappier and Vern McGowin responded and found it was actually a baby possum.

They extricated the critter from the pool and relocated it, much to the birthday girl’s relief.

“Possum patrol is just one of our many functions,” said Chief Jay Romine.
