BRADENTON — The Manatee Technical Institute cosmetology program today is offering complimentary haircuts, hair styling, manicures, pedicures, facials and makeup application to qualifying local high school students for prom.

The project is part of the Manatee Education Foundation’s Prince Charming and Cinderella Project.

“The Manatee Education Foundation is thrilled to partner with Manatee Technical Institute to provide salon services to these very worthy girls in need of these services to make their prom special,” said Tricia McKay May, coordinator of development for the foundation. “The girls are very excited about it.”

To qualify, girls must be a junior or senior at a Manatee County School District high school, have no school suspensions and be registered for free and reduced lunch.

“It’s a win-win for all the students,” said MTI cosmetology instructor Judy Millard. “The high school students have help to get ready for the prom without spending a lot of money, and the cosmetology, nail tech and facials students get in needed clinical hours before they graduate.”

MTI is taking appointments now for services, which will be offered between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

The project will also take place on May 22 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

All services are complimentary, but school officials said tips are appreciated.

To make an appointment call (941) 751-7900, ext. 2071, or e-mail millardj@manateeschools.net.
