Cinema Tropicale Celebration exceeds expectations

Sarasota Film Festival’s Cinema Tropicale Celebration was a wonderful way to recognize Florida filmmakers. More than 400, attended the party on Wednesday night which took the place of the festival’s traditional World Cinema Celebration. Held at the Sarasota Yacht Club’s luxurious new clubhouse, the event was well organized from the on-time valet parking to the great service from the bartenders and catering staff.

Filmmakers, hula hoopers (more on that in a minute), Sarasota’s young and trendy set and yacht club members, made for an eclectic crowd. A lively band played salsa music and the poolside/bayside dance floor was filled.

The highlight of the evening was a performance by hula hoopers complete with colorful glow-in-the-dark hula hoops in honor of the documentary feature “The Hooping LIfe.” One of the stars of the film, Karis Wilde, was fabulously strutting his stuff nearby.

Several buffet stations offered chicken empanadas, fish tacos, conch fritters, marinated pork bites, peel-and-eat-shrimp and more. Free beer, wine and Szambelan Vodka cocktails were available to those with a yellow wrist band.
