Motorcycle crash sends 2 to hospital

MANATEE — A St. Petersburg couple was taken to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg after their motorcycle crashed Saturday as they were heading south on Interstate 275, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

The 46-year-old man who was riding the 2003 Harley Davidson lost control of the bike when he failed to negotiate a curve just before 4 p.m., said Trooper G.W. Smith.

Both riders were wearing helmets and sustained nonlife threatening injuries, Smith said.

The man, Eric A. Blosser, was taken by ambulance to Bayfront. His wife, who appeared to have a broken arm, was taken by helicopter.

Blosser received a citation for careless driving.

Man arrested for having child pornography

BRADENTON — A 18-year-old Bradenton man was arrested after police found him to have at least 20 images of child pornography, according to an arrest report.

Christian Gayheart faces 20 counts of possession of child pornography after a Bradenton Police Department detective found the images at his residence this week that depicted children in videos performing sex acts.

The detective estimated the children shown in the images were all less than 14 years old.

According to the jail Web site, Gayheart posted a $50,000 bond and was ordered to follow supervised release conditions.

Robbery suspect nabbed, in jail on $1M bond

MANATEE — A 21-year-old man remained in jail Saturday night on a $1,030,000 bond facing charges of robbery and battery on a law enforcement officer.

Cody Shane Holland was arrested Thursday evening by deputies after a robbery victim saw him and several other men in the 900 block of 29th Avenue East. As deputies spoke to the men, a pat down searching for weapons was conducted.

Holland, who had a BB gun in his back pocket, pushed a deputy and took off running. He was later caught at his residence when detectives obtained a warrant.

Holland reportedly went to a 19-year-old’s home in the 3800 block of Ninth Avenue West on Wednesday night to purchase marijuana.

Instead, he struck the man over the head several times, nearly severing the man’s ear — and took his wallet, as well as a large amount of marijuana.

When investigators interviewed Holland, he said he was not involved in the robbery.

Holland faces other charges, including carrying a concealed firearm and resisting.

Man pepper sprayed and stunned

MANATEE — Deputies had to pepper spray and stun a man after he continued to be combative Friday, according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

Carlos Olivas, 29, faces charges of resisting, criminal mischief and battery after he allegedly went into a neighbor’s home and tried to fight him at 3:22 a.m. Friday He was chased out and went back to his residence in the 3300 block of Eighth Street Court East when deputies arrived.

Olivas returned to the residence and approached the deputy from behind. The deputy attempted to arrest him, but Olivas broke free and ran.

He was stunned. Because he continued to fight, he was then drive stunned, according to a released statement.

Olivas continued to be combative and tried to get into another deputy’s face after being handcuffed. Deputies took him to the ground and sprayed him with pepper spray.

Olivas posted a $1,620 bond, according to the jail Web site.
