MYAKKA — A Myakka man died this morning after being ejected from his car after losing control of the vehicle, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.

Troopers say just before 1 a.m., Benjamin F. Russ, 28, was driving north on Betts Road, at 284th Street East, when he lost control of his 1994 Mazda four-door, and went off the road.

The car began to spin around before slamming into the power pole. Russ did not have his seat belt on, and was thrown from the car, according to the FHP report. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
