MANATEE — Repairs are on the way for an abandoned foreclosed Northwest Bradenton home that has frustrated neighbors for many months.
A lender has contracted to have an exposed pool covered, windows boarded and other maintenance on the home in the 5500 block of Fourth Avenue Northwest, according to Manatee County officials. The home’s deteriorating condition was detailed in the Bradenton Herald on Sunday.
The property is owned by a Tampa man but is being foreclosed on by Bank of New York, the lender on the property. The bank has accepted a bid for $2,390 worth of repairs on the home, according to Manatee County Nuisance Abatement Manager Ann Marie Harper.
“I hope the work will be done in the next few days,” she said.
The property’s woes were documented in the Bradenton Herald as a neighbor to the home, Jeannette Traylor, expressed frustration about what the abandoned property has caused her neighborhood.
She pointed to the property’s broken doors, piles of garbage, unkept lawn and broken fence that left a filthy pool filled with black water exposed.
The property has been in foreclosure since December 2008, and Bank of New York has obtained a default judgment from the court but has not proceeded to completion of the foreclosure.
In the meantime, the abandoned property has fallen into disrepair and been a magnet for intruders, drug users and partying kids, according to Traylor.
Harper said she does not know why the bank has not proceeded with the foreclosure.
“All they have told me is they have a open dialogue with the owner,” she said.
Traylor said this week that repairs to the home cannot come soon enough for the safety of her neighborhood.
“I walked over there the other day and the front door was wide open, so I know people continue to go in there,” she said. “It is still a problem that I am not going to give up on until something is done.”
