BRADENTON — Bradenton police are warning the public to beware of suspicious men posing as cable technicians in the wake of three recent incidents.
On Friday, a man wearing a Verizon jacket who knocked on the door of a home in a gated condominium community in the 4800 block of 51st Street West fled after the homeowner asked for identification.
The man met with three other men also wearing Verizon jackets in the parking lot and they all fled in a sport utility vehicle with a silver gas cap. The men were overheard saying “the police were called and they needed to get out of the area,” according to a police report.
On Jan. 13, A resident of Perico Apartments, in the 11000 block of Manatee Avenue West, knocked on an apartment door and claimed to be a Brighthouse cable technician. He fled when the tenant asked for identification.
Six days later a man posing as a Brighthouse technician knocked on the front door of a home in the 6900 block of Heritage Lane and also fled when the homeowner said she did not have Brighthouse cable service.
Bradenton police officials say the homeowners in these cases acted correctly in asking for identification. The police also recommend conducting conversations with strangers through a window and closed door.
Police are also asking anyone seeing suspicious behavior in their neighborhood to call the Bradenton Police Department at (941) 932-9300.
