MANATEE - A Manatee man was in jail on a domestic battery charge, after he ran from a deputy and his police dog, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

Steven D. Valente, 34, ran when deputies about 5:45 a.m. today arrived at his residence in the 3000 block of 21st Street Court East, Bradenton, to investigate a report of a domestic disturbance, according to a news release.

Valente ran and when he ignored a deputy's order to stop, the dog engaged and bit Valente on the arm, according to the sheriff's office.

Valente was being held at the Manatee County jail on $2,500 bond on a charge of domestic battery.
