BRADENTON — Thanksgiving turned violent as a man opened fire on his brother, sending him to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg, police said.
Police were searching Friday for the man detectives said shot his brother during a dispute over money, according to Bradenton Police Deputy Chief William Tokajer.
Just before midnight, police say Nery Zambrano, 21, opened fire on his brother, whose age was not released, in Zambrano’s home, in the 500 block of 24th Avenue West. Tokajer said they were fighting over money Zambrano owed his brother.
On Friday, the victim remained in Manatee Memorial Hospital, where he had surgery, accord- ing to Tokajer.
Police continue to search for Zambrano on charges of aggravated battery with a firearm and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
In 2006, police arrested Zambrano on a felony charge of fleeing to elude a law enforcement officer and driving without a driver’s license.
Zambrano was convicted and sentenced to 18 months probation. But a year later he violated that probation and was sentenced to an additional 20 hours of community service. Tokajer said detectives are investigating whether Zambrano is still on probation.
