ELLENTON — Shoppers were in the holiday spirit early this morning.

The midnight opening at Prime Outlets-Ellenton once again drew a large crowd.

An estimated 28,000 customers flocked to the outlet mall by 7 a.m. today for the fourth-annual midnight madness event at Prime Outlets.

“We’re up about 1,000 cars from last year,” said Sarah Ozgun, marketing manager for Prime Outlets. “We were expecting that because customers are looking to save money and a lot of them are coming here to stretch their dollar.”

Bundled in a sweatshirt and sweatpants, Riverview resident Carolyn Agnew’s hands were full of shopping bags as she finished up her shopping at 7 a.m. at Prime Outlets.

“I got here about 3 a.m. and the most of the crowd was gone, you could peruse around at your own leisure,” Agnew said.

Agnew said she snagged several deals such as buy one, get one free, 20 percent off her total purchase and $10 off her purchase at various clothing stores. The discounts, she said, were helpful as the economy has her sticking to a budget this holiday season.

“I think like everybody else I’m just cutting out the extras and zoning in on what I feel is still giving but while still saving,” Agnew said.
