Chelsea Pezzola always had the University of Michigan on her mind.
So when she got a chance to play on their on women’s golf team, Pezzola, a senior at Saint Stephen’s, didn’t hesitate.
“They were always my No. 1,” she said. “I was thrilled when I got my offer.”
Pezzola signed a letter-of-intent Wednesday morning with the Wolverines, choosing them over Florida and Arizona.
“I really like the coach and the team,” she said, “and they are building a very strong women’s golf program.”
A Lakewood Ranch resident, Pezzola had a banner year as a sophomore, when she helped Saint Stephen’s to an undefeated season en route to a runner-up finish at the Class 1A state golf tournament. She also won the girls portion of the Donald Ross Memorial Invitational, as well.
She hasn’t played with the Falcons since then, but trains at The Missing Link Golf Academy daily and competes in tournaments.
Now she’s excited to get to Michigan.
“They’re all amazing golfers. Each tournament is like a tryout to compete for spots, and I think I can be an asset,” she said. “I’m really looking forward to that. They have great chemistry together.”
Pezzola hopes to study business at Michigan, going into general studies as a freshman and hoping to one day be accepted into business school.
