BCS girls soccer opens with a win

Bradenton Christian’s girls soccer team opened its district schedule with a bang Tuesday.

Kim Mannausa scored three goals and Lara Morley added a pair of assists as the Panthers defeated visiting St. Petersburg Northside Christian 4-0.

Jordan Ponto had a goal and an assist and Hannah Price, a midfielder making her debut in goal, had four saves to preserve the shutout for BCS (2-0, 1-0 Class 2A-District 10).

LAKEWOOD RANCH 5, PALMETTO 1 — The visiting Mustangs were led by two goals apiece from Taylor Salmon and Sarah Miller in the Class 4A-District 10. Sarah Wolfe scored the other goal, and goalie Katherine Somodi stopped five shot for Lakewood Ranch (3-0, 1-0). The Tigers fell to 5-1, 0-1 in the district.

BRADEN RIVER 2, BAYSHORE 0 — The host Pirates breezed by the Bruins as Jessica Price and Rachael Tally recorded goals for Braden River (2-1).

SAINT STEPHEN’S 4, ST. PETE SHORECREST 1 — The visiting Falcons cruised past Shorecrest on the heels of two goals by Martine Miller in the Class 2A-District 10 contest. Ashley Falkner added a goal and an assist, and Alyssa Allen added a goal to lead the Falcons (3-2, 1-0 in district). Saint Stephen’s goalie Shannon Morrish recorded four saves.

Boys soccer

PALMETTO 3, SOUTHEAST 1 — Jose Zamudio scored two goals and had one assist, and Brandon Waddy added a goal for the visiting Tigers (2-1).

Girls basketball

BRADENTON CHRISTIAN 48, LAKEWOOD RANCH 38 — The host Panthers (1-0) were led by Maria DeKuiper 18 points, five rebounds and five steals. Liz Capps chipped in with 16 points, four steals and nine boards in the regular-season opener for BCS (1-0). Breanna Lindsey paced the Mustangs (0-1) with nine points, and eight from Mylon Shamble.

SOUTHEAST 57, BAYSHORE 26 — Senior Bianca Hanna paced the Seminoles (1-0) with 21 points, Rosa Madsen grabbed seven rebounds and Lacey Hosuton guided the Noles with six assists. Yasmine Pinkney-Howard led the Bruins (0-1) with seven points.

JV: Southeast 26, Bayshore 16 — Mariah Kohn paced the Seminoles (1-0) with 16 points, and Nina Billini added five.

PALMETTO 53, BRADEN RIVER 38 — Ashley Smith had 12 points and Blair Thomas added 11 for the host Tigers.

LaWanna Peterson pulled in 14 rebounds for Palmetto (1-0, 1-0 Class 4A-District 10).

SOUTHWEST FLORIDA CHRISTIAN 53, SAINT STEPHEN’S 10 — Jenny Boothby led the host Falcons with eight points, five rebounds and five steals as Saint Stephen’s fell to 0-1.
