MANATEE - A gunman robbed a 35-year-old woman of her car Saturday evening, in the 5700 block of Fifth Street East, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

The carjacking happened at 7:20 p.m. when the assailant approached the woman as she was attempting to enter her vehicle in a parking lot and demanded the keys. When she refused, the suspect pulled a black handgun, pointed it at the woman and pulled the trigger, according to the sheriff's office.

However, the weapon jammed so the woman threw her keys at the suspect and fled on foot looking for help. The suspect jumped into the vehicle and drove southbound on Fifth Street East.

The victim was not injured during the carjacking.

The suspect was described as being between 25 and 30 years old, standing 5 feet, 8 inches tall and weighing 150 pounds. He was wearing all black, according to the sheriff's office.

The sheriff's office did not provide a description of the victim's vehicle.
