MANATEE — A 17-year-old boy was shot Tuesday evening while playing soccer with friends in the 5900 block of Sixth Street East, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

The victim and his friends were playing soccer when they heard a gunshot. They were running for cover when they heard two more shots.

The victim realized he had been hit on his left side and asked his friends to call for help. The bullet exited about 3 inches from where it had entered, according to the sheriff's office.

The victim was taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

There possibly were two suspects in the shooting, but no arrests had been made.
