Local teams top district seedings

This week’s district tournaments are dotted with area teams owning the top two seeds.

Entering Tuesday’s play, Saint Stephen’s had the No. 2 seed in the Class 2A-District 11 bracket, Braden River (No. 1) and Bayshore (No .2) were the top two teams in Class 4A-District 10, while Southeast and Cardinal Mooney had the top two slots in 3A-District 11.

Bradenton Christian is the No. 1 seed in Class 1A-District 8.

MATCHUPS

Bradenton Christian, Cardinal Mooney and Saint Stephen’s are off to the regional playoffs.

Bayshore and Braden River each need one win to join them.

The Panthers, Cougar and Falcons and all won their semifinal matches Tuesday, advancing not only to Thursday’s championship games, but next week’s regional quarterfinals, which is open to the top two finishers in each district.

Bradenton Christian faces Tampa Bayshore Christian in the 1A-District 8 final at Seffner Christian, while Cardinal Mooney will meet for host Arcadia DeSoto for Class 3A-District 10 title.

Saint Stephen’s meets St. Petersburg Northside Christian at Out-of-Door Academy for the Class 2A-District 11 crown.

All championship matches begin at 7.

Bayshore hosts St. Petersburg Lakewood in the semifinals of the Class 4A-District 10 tournament Wednesday night at 7, while Braden River hosts Seminole Osceola.

The winners of the semifinals will meet 7 p.m. Thursday at a site to be determined.
