BRADENTON — Local insurance professional James E. Boyd was named to Manatee Memorial Hospital’s Board of Governors on Thursday.

Boyd is chief executive officer and partner of Boyd Insurance and Investment Services, and is also a licensed real estate broker.

“We are very proud to have Jim Boyd join our hospital board,” said Moody Chisholm, chief executive officer of Manatee Memorial, in a news release.

Boyd is also chairman and founding member of Manatee River Community Bank, a member of the Downtown Development Authority and former city councilman and vice mayor of Palmetto.

One-year anniversary for City Fitness

BRADENTON — City Fitness, 821 12th St. W., will host its one-year anniversary celebration on July 30. The event will be held at City Fitness from 6 p.m.-9 p.m. and will include free food, door prizes, a free chair massage, a blood drive and recycling drive. Ellenton sports bar and grill re-opening

ELLENTON — Ellenton Suds Sports Grill, 5309 29th St. E., will celebrate its grand

re-opening with live music and a remote radio broadcast Saturday.

Southern-rock band Boss Hawg will perform, and Dinah from 102.5 FM The Bone’s “The Cowhead Show” will broadcast live from the event, which runs from noon to 5 p.m. Jumparound inflatables, drink specials and giveaways also are planned.

Realtors join Crime Watch

MANATEE — The Manatee Association of Realtors is partnering with local authorities on crime prevention efforts.

The organization will host a Realtor Watch program for local businesses from 9:15 a.m.-10:15 a.m. Wednesday.

The program will be a free training class in which a local law enforcement official will address crime watch issues such as reporting suspicious activity as well as avoiding dangerous situations.

Morton’s to open cafe

SARASOTA — Morton’s Gourmet Market, at 1924 S. Osprey Ave., will host a grand opening for a cafe it is opening in Sarasota. Law and Order Cafe will open Aug. 3 at 2000 Main St. inside the Sarasota Courthouse.

The cafe will serve breakfast and lunch as well as coffee, espresso, cappuccino, pastries, bagels, muffins, deli sandwiches and soup.

Law and Order Cafe will be open 7 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday.
