Manatee sheriff: Girl, 17, shot in head at boyfriend's house

MANATEE - Detectives were investigating a shooting that left a 17-year-old girl in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the head, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

Shortly after 8 p.m. Friday, deputies responded to the 2500 block of 30th Avenue East where a 17-year-old boy who lives at the address said the victim - his girlfriend - had been shot by accident as they handled a gun, according to a sheriff's office news release.

The victim was shot in the forehead. She was transported to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg where she is listed in critical condition.

Neither juvenile’s name is being released at this time. Detectives continue to investigate.
