MANATEE - A Manatee County sheriff's deputy early this morning used a Taser to subdue a drunken driving suspect, according to a sheriff's office news release.

The deputy had stopped the suspect as he drove into the driveway of his residence in the 5600 block of Sixth Street Court East about 2:49 a.m.

The suspect disregarded the deputy's instruction to stay where he was and attempted to go into his home. The deputy took the suspect to the ground and attempted to handcuff him, according to the report.

The suspect refused to remove his hands from under him so the deputy used his Taser to stun him twice, once on his back and once on his neck. The deputy was able to gain control of his hands and secure him, according to the sheriff's office.

The suspect was not injured.
