MANATEE — A Bradenton man was arrested Sunday following a chase along county streets, sheriff’s officials said.

Robert Adam Mulqueen, 29, of the 4600 block of Fifth Street West, was arrested early Sunday morning on charges of DUI, driving without a license and driving with no headlights after dark, according to a Manatee County Sheriff’s Office release.

At about 2:45 a.m., a deputy noticed a vehicle leave a convenience store and pull onto the highway. The driver did not turn on the car’s headlights.

The deputy followed the car and observed a “driving pattern consistent of someone impaired,” according to the release. The deputy tried to initiate a traffic stop, but the driver failed to stop and sped up to speeds of about 50 mph, the release said.

The driver drove an additional mile and a half before he pulled over in the 1900 block of State Road 70.

According to the release, Mulqueen was extremely combative, uncooperative and used profane language.

Another deputy responded and tried to give him a field sobriety test, but Mulqueen refused. Mulqueen was arrested and taken to the Manatee County jail. Jail records show he posted a $500 bond.
