School-aged children on summer break can maintain or gain musical skills during the Sarasota Orchestra's Summer Music Camp June 29-July 17, 2009. Offering the perfect escape from hot Florida summer days, campers will enjoy this three-week musical adventure in an air-conditioned concert hall. No prior experience is required, this camp is open to students of all abilities and is the ideal time for a beginner to try out a musical instrument or for intermediate and advanced students to hone their own skills or sample something new. Activities for string, wind, brass and percussion students include daily rehearsals in a large ensemble, a technique class, and skill-building in elective classes. Classes are kept to manageable sizes, so every student receives individual attention.
As part of the experience, students will present recitals in Holley Hall in the Beatrice Friedman Symphony Center, 709 N. Tamiami Trail in Sarasota. String students will perform on July 17 at 9:30 a.m. Winds, brass and percussion students will perform on July 17 at 1:30 p.m. Family members are invited to attend.
Tuition for the three-week Summer Music Camp is $285 per student, which includes a $25 non-refundable application fee. Tuition scholarships are available on a need-basis and must be requested as part of the registration application. Applications must be postmarked by June 1st. There is no audition for placement; therefore, availability is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Enroll early to reserve your space.
