American Girl Fashion Show a sold-out affair

March 27, 2009

Girls, dolls and fashion. Can the first Saturday of spring get any better than that? I don’t think so, and obviously, I wasn’t alone, as the American Girl Fashion Show sold out not one, but two shows at the Polo Grill Ballroom in Lakewood Ranch.

The ballroom was blossoming with oversized, vibrant Gerbera daisy pots on all tables, and adorned with American Girl dolls. Under the guidance of co-chairs Annette Larkin and Kara Schiavone, the Junior League of Manatee County brought this fresh and fun fashion show to town, where everyone could celebrate the spirit of being a girl.

The local talent search found 94 adorable young girls to model the American Girl fashions. Wow! What an undertaking. The show featured both historical and contemporary fashions for girls ranging in age from 3 to 12 that related to the stories of the American Girl characters. The event was narrated by local celebrity Summer Smith from Bay News 9.

Multiple generations of women arrived in droves, all with their favorite American Girl doll — dressed to the nines. Grandma Kathy Marcinko and mom Diane Lehman with little Caroline arrived early, anxiously awaiting sister Emily’s debut on the runway.

Special thanks to the always fashionable women of Junior League: Bev Burdette, Kelly McLemore, Kim Murawski, Erin Novarro, Jennifer Peeples and Tiffany Smith.
