Florida Gov. Charlie Crist will travel to Fort Myers on Tuesday for President Barack Obama's noon town hall meeting, the Miami Herald is reporting.
Hundreds of people are lined up Monday for tickets to see Obama. The tickets are free, but only 1,500 will be handed out.
The governor's office confirmed that Crist would join Obama in Fort Myers.
Florida Gov. Charlie Crist is one of a number of Republican governors who have broken ranks with their GOP colleagues in Congress and are pushing for approval of President Barack Obama’s stimulus plan that would send billions to states for education, public works and health care.
Obama will visit Fort Myers to promote the $820 billion economic stimulus plan. The Senate is expected to vote on the plan Tuesday.
Fort Myers' unemployment rate has climbed to 10 percent, and its housing market is among the nation's worst. Obama also will tour neighborhoods with many foreclosures and stalled construction projects.
The first person in line is 51-year-old Roy Hendrix of Fort Myers, who had been homeless until some friends took him into their home. Hendrix says he'd like to thank Obama for "giving us hope that he can help turn this economy around."
