PALMETTO — One man was shot to death tonight, apparently while riding a bicycle in a Palmetto alleyway, according to Palmetto Police.

The man was killed behind the Texaco gas station at the corner of Ninth Street West and Eighth Avenue West in Palmetto.

Palmetto Police Chief Garry Lowe said the unidentified man was shot at about 8:30 p.m.

“The victim was riding a bicycle and was accosted by two unknown males,” Lowe said. “People heard a gunshot or two, came out and the victim was on the ground.”

Eyewitnesses said two men were spotted in a car nearby and were seen speeding east on Ninth Street West after they heard one or two shots.

Anyone with additional information on the shooting can Palmetto Police Sgt. Stephen Greer at 723-4587.
