What: Out-of-Door Academy (0-1) at Tampa Carrollwood Day (1-0)

When: 4:30 p.m. on Friday

The scoop: Senior safety Ryan McComb is expected to sit out for Class 1B Out-of-Door with an ankle sprain. Thunder players may have underestimated Cape Coral Island Coast last week, and four turnovers also contributed to a 22-7 defeat. Coach Brett Timmons wants a more consistent performance from senior quarterback Tony Gurry, who was 10-for-16 but couldn't deliver the big play. The Thunder also hope to get running back A.J. Strong on track. Look for Gurry to throw to Strong out of the backfield and take more chances downfield to Chris Ragone, Nick Hepp and Jamie Onufrak. The Patriots, who are playing their first varsity season as an independent, opened with a 42-27 victory against The First Academy of Leesburg. Billy Embody threw for four touchdowns — one to Deuce Gruden, son of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach. The score: Out-of-Door Academy 24, Tampa Carrollwood Day 12.
