Lakewood Ranch’s Yellow Strawberry Hair Salon stylists and assistants snipped and clipped the heads of more than 50 residents who turned out for donated haircuts in support of Lisa Kreider and her Memorial Scholarship Fund. Kreider, one of the salon’s former stylists, lost her life in a car accident.

BCS students go ‘bowling’ for the hungry

Bradenton Christian Ceramic Art students are donating bowls to the Empty Bowls fundraiser. Each student prepared and threw a bowl on the wheels in the school’s Fine Arts Studio. Before delivering their bowls to Empty Bowls’ sponsor, ArtCenter Manatee, the students inscribed Isaiah 58:7, which talks about feeding the hungry, on the bottom of each bowl. Empty Bowls is a nationwide event designed to help feed the hungry. More than 500 people attended last year’s event, which featured a symbolic meal of soup and bread, served in a handmade bowl. On event day, participants pay $15 for soup donated by local restaurants served in bowls made and donated by local potters. All proceeds from this local event benefit The Food Bank of Manatee.
